The recent rant about Amazon’s “buy vs. rent” on their digital films got me a-wondering…

How do you buy & rent your home video content these days? Do you buy at all?

Physical Media (ie. DVD, BluRay)
If so, where? Online, Brick & Mortar, Rental kiosks?

Digital (Netflix/Hulu/Amazon/etc.)

What do you consider the plus and minuses of the choices available?

I access mine from my local Walmart and download it into my shopping cart and then store it in my DVD shelves at home.

I’m a big time AV snob, so I have invested a good amount of money in a home theater system in order to take advantage of the high resolution video & audio Blu-ray discs have to offer. Downloaded/streaming content just doesn’t cut it for me. I rent discs from Netflix (even after their major mess up), occasionally from Red Box, and buy what I like.

Like the feller above i do like excellent audio and video but while i do not have a top of the range Home Cinema system i have invested heavily is getting top of the line head phones and sound cards which support headphone virtialisation technology and believe me it works excellently.

In terms of media i rent first using Itunes, Blink Box, Zune (PC and 360), PS3 download or Channel Four On Demand service; which ever one has the best price or availability and if i like the film i buy the Bluray and the upgrade in audio and video is very much wellcomed

I'm a renter more than a buyer myself these days. Rental kiosks and Library are my main avenues.
Purchasing has dropped off for me considerably as my money gets allocated to other things, but there are some that I do buy. Usually based on whether or not I saw it in the theater and then rented it and enjoyed it as much the 2nd time, which make me think I'll enjoy it a 3rd or 4th. Since the rental stores are falling to the wayside, the thought that I can always just rent it again is gone. So purchase is the only option.

I have not jumped on to the Netflix or other streaming service yet as my TVs are of lost ancient technology and I don't care to watch on the computer. (Though I'll admit it does have a GREAT picture)
Once I update the TV to something that can I can stream to I'm sure my rent/buy process will change.

I have no idea what you mean and we here at Jonja.net do not condone such actions even if we did know what you mean. :ninja:
