It appears Apple is really counting on the "Cloud" to be the way of the future.

It's most recent entry into the laptop world, a MacBook Pro with Retina Display (the new display supposedly boasts the highest resolution monitor ever) does not come with a CD/DVD drive. It does still come equipped with inputs for SD card, HDMI, two USB 3, and two Thunderbolt inputs with adapters for Ethernet and Firewire. It also lacks the hard drive of old and instead hosts up to 768 GB of flash storage.
The absence of a CD/DVD drive makes it appear as though Apple truly believes that you will soon be storing all your data online and/or getting your entertainment through streaming. It certainly looks like we are heading that way. If the other PC manufacturers follow suit (if they haven't already) will, in the end, be the deciding factor.
