Interesting concept, one I haven't heard before, sounds like it ought to work great, but "timing lights S***"...???

I'll have to chew on that one for a bit...

Yeah, I know, but with timing you lights you set timing to a pre-set number in a book and hope it works for you. The vaccum gage idea of setting timing works perfectly everytime and even sets your timing to what it should be given your current atlitude.

Stop fighting guys.
Old style engines need a musician.
Full tune tomorrow.
You listen to the engine.
She is telling what she needs.
Gauges and timing lights and such give you base.
It takes an ear to hear how she is running.
BULL, I am glad you made me think about the OD.
I may have fallen off the curve, had I'd gone with the higher OD
Regards,

The musician had at it.
Vacuum is fine, timing light is fine.
Nothing beats listening.
She was out darn near 10 degrees
Ran the timing up to max rpm and backed her off a wee.
Stop and restart, nope back a wee more
Too rich on the idles.
Backed it to 1 1/2 on each jet
Go with it for a week
When you rev it she rocks the body now.
You must listen to the engine
water is coming out the pipe now

NITE

Wee more tune up today.
Backed the timing off about 2 degrees
Enriched the idle 1/4th turn
Backed the accelerater pump off, may need a smaller one.
First oil change
Think I got that annoying exhaust leak
In answer to your query, BULL
She is pulling about 25 mpg right now.
I am purposely running her rich for break in.
Whether I get my target mileage remains to be seen.
But damn sure she'll hit 32 again.
People cannot believe what I am getting now

First cold day.
-18
And a bit of snow.
Man does that Chevy heater mod pay off.
Ordered new jets, as I starved her, put old jets back in.
Power and mileage picking up regardless.
Hitting an esty of 27 hiway.
Still running rich
Loveing the snarl the exhaust is developing.
Hey, Bull,
I think I'm going to pull off at least the original 32, maybe 35

Regards,
NITE
