My father, who is now upwards of 67, and who barely has a basic cell phone, has just purchased his first computer. (An ASUS netbook...)

He lives on the East coast...

Guess who he is calling for help... (referencing a couple of Win 7 Widgets this time...)

Dad... "What does it mean when this 'CPU' gauge goes up???"

Dad... "I saved a file 'as a document' and the 'RAM' gauge was at 63%, does that mean I only have room for one more small document???!!!"

Have you ever tried to explain the difference between RAM and a HD to someone that doesn't have the slightest clue???

All the freaking time, its like people dont have even the basic idea of the difference between RAM and HD and the clueless looks they give you when you try to explain. ](*,)

sign him up for computer classes..let them have the headache. I've seen a class for seniors at my local community center. check around your area.

I usually use the analogy of an office. The RAM is the desk, the HD is the filing cabinet and the processor is the overworked underpaid employee on caffeine working on the TPS reports.
