Director Alex Proyas (DARK CITY & I, ROBOT) has been selected by Universal to direct DRACULA YEAR ZERO. This is an origin tale of Vlad the Impaler, the Romanian royal who went on a bloody rampage. The goal for Proyas and producer Michael De Luca is to show the man before the legend was 100 years older sucking blood out of his victims. To show the man who the Romanians consider to be a hero for fending off the Turks.

Scribes Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless convinced Alex Proyas to the project, a man who is known to not have many projects and is generally selective about what he takes.

"Usually when you see him, he's past his prime and 100 years old," Sazama said.

"In our movie, he's at the height of his powers," Sharpless added.

This will be the first time that director Alex Proyas and producer Michael De Luca work together since DARK CITY.

I'd like it to have any other title than the over used comic staple "year zero".
