I got a chance to see Rise of the Planet of the Apes over the weekend and I really liked it. When seeing this movie, forget about all the previous films - don't try to compare it. It is more of a prequel to the 1968 film than an adaptation of the book like the 2001 film somewhat attempted to do. There are a few nods in it to the 1968 film.

The CGI is very convincing, the story is very engaging, and it is first and foremost a drama. You can tell that the producers want to tell their story over the course of several films. With what they have established, there are a lot of stories that can be told. I'm looking forward to seeing more!

So you definitely see this as the beginning of a series of films then? Interesting. I am curious to see if they can actually pull something like that off.

It was quite obvious to me they plan on making several movies continuing the story. I, for one, am eagerly awaiting the next installment. I hadn't read any reviews before seeing it. However, I heard from someone that the reviews had been scathing so I wasn't expecting a lot from the movie. After seeing it, I couldn't understand why the reviews had been scathing. Upon doing research myself (something I should always do instead of taking someone's word!) I found that most reviews were positive.

I just hope that this series of films doesn't degrade that the first series did after such a strong start.

I like their twist on the virus that in the old film kills dogs and cats, now instead kills people. I assume the missing space shuttle/ship will come back to find a planet full of talking apes. I will miss the old gorilla uniforms. :(
