Rise of the Planet of the Apes Movie Review

Well where to begin? I mean let’s be honest; who hasn’t heard of Planet of the Apes? The franchise is one of the corner stone of SciFi cinema history. Plus the first movie provided probably the greater WTF moments of its era. But I mean really? Was it necessary to revisit? The subject matter was kind of beaten to death after Movie number 2, and #4, from which the shell of Rise 2011 story was based upon wasn’t really anything to be happy about.
Obviously this reviewer is pretty biased in regards to the film. In all honesty I am getting tired Hollywood remaking movies that do not need to be remade. Why? Because most of the time they’re just as big of a failure as the previous, or it tarnishes a classic that didn’t need tarnished to begin with. High expectations? Hell Yeah. And the movie met one of them…. But that is it….
Sorry going to be some “buts” in this one.

The story of Rise of the Planet of the Apes is about Caesar, his owner/fosters Parent Will, and how the former releases all the Apes in San Francisco in a rebellion against Human repressors. Now from a technical angle the CGI on Caesar is bloody amazing. And the motion Capture acting done by Andy Serkis could get him some attention during award season, especially because of the scenes where Caesar grows and eventually loses his innocence. These are where the film has strength and resonance as well as shows the possibly of great a movie in the making. BUT for some reason either the studio or the director, probably both, lost their balls. At about 2/3 of the way through, it goes from poignant and power to repetitive and cartoonish. Pissing this reviewer off. Special effects are great BUT honestly if the story behind it starts to S***, all special becomes is a light show that makes me fall asleep, over generalization maybe. BUT you hopefully get my point.

It actually made me angry this film. This movie is like bad mash to two different films, The coming of the B movie Ape Apocalypse and Project NIM. Why can’t filmmakers just pick one? Oh wait they did… They just didn’t tell these guys before it hit the theaters

In conclusion: The movie is better than most this summer. BUT as remake I expected better and it did not deliver, other than Andy Serkis; props to you buddy your leader in your field.
2 apes crashing into helicopter out of5 (COME ON COULDN’T THINK OF A BETTER FILM CLIMAX THEN THAT….)

Interesting take on the film. Haven't seen it myself yet, but you seem to be polar opposite to a lot of other reviews, which makes me very curious to see it now. (Though it will most likely have to wait to home viewing)
It's refreshing to see another viewer take such a different stance on a film than most others. That position is usually mine!
