This is the 2nd of three 'First Season' episodes that I possess.

Once we get into 'Season Two', we'll get some continuity flowing here.

But for now...

Let the experiments begin!

Experiment #105 ~ THE CORPSE VANISHES (1942), with short Commando Cody and the Radar Men from the Moon (Ch.3).

Original Air Date: Approx. 12/89

Genre: Sci-Fi/Horror

Studio: Monogram Pictures

Starring: Bela Lugosi, Tristram Coffin, Patricia Hunter

Directed By: Wallace Fox

Theatrical Running Time: 64 Minutes

Tagline: "Horror to Make Your Hair Stand on End!".

Film Synopsis:
A sinister Doctor (Bela Lugosi ~ Dracula say no more) steals murdered(?), virgin brides' bodies to perform glandular experiments on them in an effort to retain 'His' wife's youthful beauty.

Invention Exchange:
Joel presents the 'Chiro-Gyro' (a device which one straps upon one's head, that spins either clockwise or counter-clockwise to align one's spine), and the 'Mads' present the 'Flame-Flower' (a nasty twist on the the classic lapel 'Squirting Flower', except with fire (really 'hateful')).

Host Segments:
Host 1: Tom and Crow are reading the latest issue of 'TigerBot' magazine ('TigerBeat', for those of you born after the '70's).
Host 2: Joel and the 'Bots play 'tag'. (yep, that's pretty much it. Tag!)
Host 3: Barber Shop.
End:
Stinger: None.

Items of Note:
Very funny 'Host segment #1'. The 'Dream Date of the Month' is 'Twiki' (from 'Buck Rogers in the 25th Century' TV series), and the 'Hot Bot' of the month is 'Data' from ST:TNG. whose 'Bio' reads as follows...
Turn Ons: 'Electricity'; 'Quiet walks on the Holodeck', 'Craves 'Supercomputers''.
Turn Offs: 'Switches', 'Fat Klingons' in Spandex', 'Shatner' hanging around the set telling old war stories', ''Tandy' products'
Favorite Actress: 'Julie Newmar'
Favorite Scotch: 'James Doohan'
Secret Fantasy: 'I Want to be a Human'.

After reading that, the 'Bots write 'Data' off as a 'sell-out'.

Host segment #3 'Barber Shop' is just about as funny as really going to a barber shop. Imagine sitting on Andy Taylor's front porch after Aunt Bea fixed a really big supper. Barney is there, and no one is talking about anything of relevance.

Boring. And so is the segment.

Personal Notes:
~ There are finally a few banks of lights on the 'Bridge' of the SOL.
~ Still no 'Bots during the 'Invention Exchange'.
~ Still no 'Eye Lens' for 'Gypsy'.
~ Silhouettes in auditorium, at bottom of TV screen change color depending upon the lighting of the movie scene.
~ Up to this point, the 'Bots have been in the Auditorium at the start of the film. Joel actually carries 'Tom Servo' in and out of the theater. (This will be explained in seasons to follow).
~ Table (Control Panel) of the SOL is not visible.
~ First time I see address to 'Fan Club' (if anyone is still interested the 'snail mail' address is)
MST3K Fan Club
P.O. Box 5325
Hopkins, MN 55343

The 'Riffs':Running from 'The Three Stooges' to 'Bela' himself (lots of material there, with the voice alone) to 'ZZ Top' and 'The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe', a very good 'riff' session. Not the best, but the company has yet to hit their stride. The best is still to come.

Rating: 2 1/2 'Corpse Brides' out of 5

I remember watching this one! I had forgotten about 'Tigerbot'! Too funny!
Agreed, they had yet to hit their stride but the kernel of the genius that was to come is very apparent in this one.

BTW..They still run a website. Some nice info on what the cast and crew are up to these days, including Mike Nelson Rifftrax...
