"Turn Down Your Lights (Where applicable)"

Experiment #310 ~ FUGITIVE ALIEN (1986)

Original Air Date: August 17, 1991

Genre: Sci-Fi

Studio: Tsuburaya Production, LTD.

Starring: Tatsuya Azuma, Miyuki Tanigawa, Joe Shishido, Choei Takahashi, Tsutomu Yukawa, Hiro Tateyama

Directed By: Kiyosumi Kukazawa, Minoru Kanaya

Theatrical Running Time: 103 Minutes

Tagline: N/A

Film Synopsis: See Experiment #K12

Intro: I ain't gonna work on Maggie's farm no more! The Bots are stuck with participating in one of Joel's 'Life Simulation' exercises, this scenario being a 'dairy farmer from southern Wisconsin'. Tom and Crow are in costumes, dressed as chickens, and Gypsy is dressed as a dairy cow.

Invention Exchange: Dr. F. presents (with Frank's assistance) the 'Orbital-Audio-Rhinal-Laryngylotical Dropper'. (All the eye, ear, nose and throat medications you need in one package). Joel presents the 'Musical Chair', a deck chair made from multi-colored xylophone keys. ("What better way to 'sit-in' with your favorite musicians"). The film gets introduced by 'A&E' network celebrity Jack Perkins (Mike Nelson).

Host Segments:

Host 1: Crow ruminates on the 'Wolf Raider's' hair, and the SOL decides to have a "Hat Party".

Host 2: Joel enlists the Bots to re-enact a scene from today's experiment where Joel is "Captain Joe" and Tom Servo and Crow act as the crew of "Bacchus 3".

Host 3: The Bots are confused by the film, but Joel walks them through with the help of "Syd Field's Screenplay Model". (Act I) Beginning: Setup., (Act II)Middle: Confrontations, and (Act III) End: Resolutions.

End: Joel reads a fan letter. Frank and Dr. Forrester continue to torture Jack Perkins.

Stinger: "HAHAHAHAHA! ...You're STUCK HERE!"

Items of Note:
~ Mike Nelson makes his first appearance as Jack Perkins. (This is the first appearance of Mike as that character. In fact, the character will become the host cornerstone for the "Mystery Science Theater Hour", a syndicated 60 minute version of the series).
~ Frank gets pissy about the SOL making jokes about his hair.
~ Dr. F. gets pissy about wisecracks directed at him as well.
~ Lots of 'call back' references to earlier episodes.

Personal Notes:
~ In the intro Joel brings up the subjects of 'Velvet Leaf', 'Cutworm' and 'Foxtail'. These guys have obviously been around and know real people who are farmers.
~ This will be remembered as the episode where all the characters in the film are named 'Ken'. (Not accurate, but funny none the less)
~ It would appear that "Fugitive Alien" and "Fugitive Alien II" are virtually the same film.
~ For more useless information see Experiment #K12 and History and Experiments K00 thru K003

The 'Riffs':
~ "Look! It's 'Heck'raiser!"
~ "It looks like the floor of the Tokyo Stock Exchange on Black Monday!"
~ "Ken-4"! Err..., I mean, "10-4!"
~ "That was no meteorite, that was my wife!"

~ References spanning such topics as 'Invasion, Earth' (TV series), 'Carol Channing', 'Joyce Carol Oates', 'Peter, Paul and Mary' and 'Topol' among many more. A good solid episode, and much, much funnier than Experiment #K12.

Rating: 3 "Wolf Raiders" out of 5
