This last month saw the anniversary of Rick Copple at the helm of Ray Gun Radio, the free podcast based on stories from Ray Gun Revival. I was honored to be interviewed for the show, and they read one of the chapters from "The Adventures of the Sky Pirate." I loved the reading voice of James King, and was delighted to hear how he pronounced some of the words that I've only heard in my own head up 'til now. Take Haddirron, for example - he makes the name of the country sound exotic and cool, while the way I think of it in my head makes it sound like something from a Beach Boys song, "Haddirron, Had-had-irron." I think I prefer his interpretation. Weird how that works. I love the collaboration of ideas between author and reader -- you just never know where things will go, or where you will end up.
I had the chance to plug my dad's paperback library again--where this all really started for me--and I had a pretty good time answering questions and trying to be witty. Of course, I was coming off nine days of illness and was sharp as a marble, but at least James makes the story itself sound good, and Rick edited out my worst rambling tangents.
