Last month at GenCon Indianapolis we had to pleasure to sit down with the folks from Wizards of the Coast, the publishers of Dungeons and Dragons, and talk about their return to the world of Neverwinter.
Shelly talks with Floyd about changes to the world of role paying and how Neverwinter hopes to lure back the gamers that may have fallen away because "life happens" as well entice hardcore games who know how to "not get too attached" to the short lived playing characters they have created. And role playing isn't just about pen and paper anymore. Soon you will be able to campaign 160 characters at a time via Facebook and Twitter.
Listen to Floyd's interview and then let us know what you think about the future of role playing games.

Interesting, but Wizards are not the creators of D&D. In fact, the company did not even exist when a man names Gary Gygax invented D&D in the 1970's....just FYI.

Ah, you are correct sir. I suppose a slight correction is in order. Gary Gygax and Dave Arneson did create the game and it was first published in 1974 by Tactical Studies Rules, Inc. (TSR). Wizards purchased the failing TSR in 1997.
Original post has been updated. Thanks Scorpy!

I'm amazed at the longevity of the role playing games. Had you asked me 20 years ago when someone first introduced me the D&D that they thing would STILL be around today and have dozens if not hundreds of knock-offs, I would have rolled my eyes and gave you a serious "Of course it wont!".
I couldn't get into back in the day (which would have been sometime in the late 80's). I tried but the whole idea of the sitting around throwing die while talking about what some imaginary wizard did to an Ork king... just didn't grab my interest. Maybe a more current incarnation could do better.

Clearly ol' Cybermonk threw a cog! Of course, TSR! And I should have known better: I was playing with a set of red box rules long before WOTC was a gleam in anyone's imagination.
