On Dec. 21, 2012, many doomsday believers fear the apocalypse — anything from a rogue planet smashing into us to our world spinning end over end. However, the world should expect nothing more next year than the winter solstice, the longest night of the year, NASA says.

Many people point to the end of the Mayan Long Count calendar on Dec. 21, 2012 as evidence of the coming apocalypse, but astronomers have been quick to stress that there is nothing to be concerned about.

Well now I feel silly stocking up on all those canned goods and duct tape.

The "great" thing is no matter what any expert says on the matter, there are still going to be people that put stock in the prophets of doom claiming things like "The government is covering the truth" etc. Yeah, uh-huh. Most of the Government can't even keep their cellphone pics out of public eye. I'm pretty sure they would be hard pressed to keep THOUSANDS of astronomers and other scientists from keeping their mouths shut or propagating the lie that we are all safe while a giant planet is hurtling towards us.

I plan on watching the news and shaking my head come December 13th while listening to all the hard luck stories of people that sold off or destroyed their worldly possessions or lost their jobs when they packed up and headed for the mountains to try and escape the "end of the world".

We need to get a jump on making 2013 calendars touting “I survived the idiot doomsday prophets”!

doom doesn't need to come from space. What about the mega-volcano in Yellowstone? or the zombie apocalypse
