From BBC Worldwide the new series Sinbad premiers July 8th at 7PM on Canada's sci-fi/fantasy/horror network, SPACE.

Thanks to SPACE I got to watch the first episode and I frankly am a little disappointed that I wont be seeing anymore. (For the time being at least)

From a Bell Media (Parent company of SPACE) press release the synopsis is as follows:
Quote:
On the run from his home town of Basra and under a curse for a killing that led to the death of his much-loved brother, the streetwise Sinbad finds himself cast out to sea. Surviving a violent and magical storm, both Sinbad and his intriguing fellow ship-mates are forced to band together to face their inner demons, hopes, loves and fears. The flawed hero embarks on an epic and emotional quest to rid himself of the curse and embrace his destiny.

Now, not all of that actually happens in the first episode, I think I'd still be catching my breath if it did, but enough happens to set up the series and give you a taste of what is to come. One thing that isn't mentioned and I don't think it is too spoilery to mention here is that poor Sinbad is cursed before being cast out to sea. He can not step foot on land for more than "one cycle of the sun" at a time. (I guess that is how they say "day" in 8th century Basra.) Check out the trailer that was produced for Sky1 and see what you think.

I think you can get the idea from that. This is exactly what you might expect from a Sinbad story line. There will be magic and adventure, damsels in distress, etc.
I was half expecting this to come across like a Hercules or Xena but this one appears to take itself pretty seriously. That is not to say there isn't some humor but over all the tongues are firmly NOT in the check.

If you get the chance I'd say check it out and if you do... Let me know what happens next!!
