Or as I like to call it "Failing Skies" is done and over for the season and although I had said I wasn't going to watch yet was pulled back in by others whose reviews touted it as having improved SO much from 1st season, I started watching again.
I can once again say, and this time I pretty sure I mean it, I am done with this show. Unoriginal, uninteresting, and sci-fi by the numbers.
They have done almost nothing that the "V" remake didn't do or almost any other alien invasion story hasn't done and whats worse is they haven't managed to make it at all interesting. If they had at least made it interesting for me to watch them rehash the same old tropes I'd be OK with it.
So many times they stood at the edge of an interesting story, an idea that in my opinion might actually be an entertaining one to explore, they turned their backs to it.
For those of you that have read my opinions on other shows and movies know that i am not averse to having the story be more about character than action but you have to give me some characters that are in some way interesting. Everyone in this show feels very 2 dimensional and the attempts at developing them are again by the numbers and often misplaced. The wrong character has to deal with the wrong story, etc. Which leads them to be rather inconsistent. Pope is the bad-ass until the story needs him to show his softer wiser side and then that only last until the story once again needs someone despicable to threaten the mission. The Captain is the hard military man who only cares about the group as a whole until the story dictates that he has to suddenly allow Tom to wander off on a suicide mission endangering the entire 2nd Mass.
I think Falling Skies is a show written and produced by committee and focus groups to appeal to the mass audience. (Telling all the more is the reveal of the new alien race that is a lot more humanoid than any previous aliens so far. Better for audiences to relate to and connect with?)
