Hmm, if this is the shape of things to come, I won't be watching it any more.

Lots of interesting buildup aaaaaaannd... thirty second conclusion for a pointless and stupid cause of plot and back home in time for tea. It was like a serious version of that bit in Shaun of the Dead when they're planning their strategy.

Winchester?

Yup, a filler episode to be sure. Some sort of build up to the midseason finale with Pond story line. They are really building it up to be some sort of monumental thing. "Tearjerker" is promised by Moffat. I for one will be glad to see the Ponds depart. Amy was fun for a while, but frankly they have focused too much on her and this weird obsession the Doctor has with her and Rory. Time to move on to be sure.

There was a scene in this that really exemplifies why I like Matt Smith. When he is talking to Rory's dad. Brian asks what happens to the people who travel with the Doctor.
Matt Smith goes from this young man to suddenly looking 1200 years old as he tells him the fates of his past companions. Tennant could never pull that off, though I think he tried, and even Eccleston couldn't have done as well. Brilliant moment in an otherwise 'nothing' episode.

Also, is it just me or have the previous two seasons had some multi-episode story arc which allegedly is concluded but isn't really at all? Just thinking "cracks in time"... they timey-wimied* out of it and then everything is better without any complications or losses as far as I can think. Then the next season with River Song and his death being a fixed point, he played dead and that's it.

* - which is possibly the Dr Who equivalent of TNG's "tech the tech", google for it if you don't know what I mean.

Yup, I've been pretty disappointed with the conclusion of the previous arcs. Lots of flash, not a lot of substance.

I think I have come to believe that the writers and Moffat are not even bothering to try any more, they know they S***, they know they will always S*** so why bother.

That is what this episode has left me with. :tear:

Admittedly I usually think that you go over the top with your criticisms of post-Davies Dr Who, but it wasn't as if this episode was just a bit of a sucky one (ie. didn't like the plot or the conclusion), it was a case of "this episode shouldn't have been approved for production in its state, what were they thinking?".
