Theatrical Running Time: 82 Minutes
Two young boys Akio (Nobuhiro Kazima) and Tom (Christopher Murphy) discover a spaceship (which looks exactly like the Zigran ship from last weeks experiment) in the woods near Akio's home. After entering the craft and fiddling with the controls, the ship's hatch closes and takes off into space with the two boys on board. Gamera tries to stop the ship but cannot. The ship lands on another planet and the boys awaken to witness a battle between Guiron (a giant monster with a knife blade for a head) and a 'Space' Gaos. Gaos ends up looking like a presentation at 'Benihana'. While exploring the alien city, the boys meet Barbella and Carbella, the last remaining survivors of their race. The aliens plan to eat the boys brains and take their spaceship back to Earth. The boys escape, Guiron destroys the spaceship, the aliens are killed and Gamera does battle with Guiron and vanquishes him. Gamera repairs the ship and returns the boys to Earth (with it in his mouth.Yuck!).
Joel questions Dr. Forrester and Dr. Erhardt about how much longer this Gamera stuff is going to go on. (If they send a Gamera movie this week, it will be five weeks in a row!). The Mads confess they've run out of Gamera movies and have compiled a new list of films. "Star Wars", "2001: A Space Odyssey", "E.T.", "Jaws", "Ishtar". Unfortunately at the last moment, Dr. Erhardt finds a copy of another Gamera film and the Mads send it.
Gypsy accidentally drops a piece of equipment on Crow's head, knocking him unconscious. Crow dreams that HE controls the experiments while Dr.'s Erhardt and Forrester are trapped on the Satellite of 'Loathe'. He repeatedly sends them "A Planet of the Apes Christmas".
Crow tells Joel and Servo about his dream. Joel tells them "robots can't dream." Servo disagrees, and describes how "I consistently do about being on a tropical South Sea island, with naive native girls, fanning me, and rubbing me, with coconut oil and mango juice, all over my little body, and...." Joel explains "that is not a dream, that's a fantasy." Crow says "I dreamed I was a hillbilly, and while looking for some food, up through the ground came a bubbling crude. Oil, that is." Joel explains "that is not a dream, that's a re-run." "Yeah, well I dreamed that a stupid, young, bumbling, inexperienced Senator from Indiana gained access to the White House, just because of his rugged good-looks!", Servo states. Joel explains "that is not a dream, that's a nightmare!"
Joel tells the Bots that sometimes he dreams that he's "back down on Earth, walkin' around town, feelin' groovy. Sometimes I dream I'm a crane operator, or sometimes, I'm standing in line for Metallica tickets. And sometimes, I dream about 'Cissy' from 'Family Affair'." Crow proclaims, "Humans! You can't live with them, you can't twist their necks 360 degrees!"
Joel, Crow and Gypsy sing a 'pep cheer' for the SOL. Joel assures everyone that there will be no more Gamera films. Gypsy promises a new movie next week. Joel thanks everyone for watching.
Items of Note:
~ Joel has cut his long, shaggy hair and now sports a nice, short hairstyle.
~ Joel and the Bots do not listen to any 'viewer's phone messages'.
~ Gypsy goes all 'James Brown' in the end segment.
~ The copy of this episode that I viewed was apparently one that KTMA had re-broadcast at some point. Before the opening credits there is a short intro by Joel and the Bots stating that this is an 'encore' performance.
~ "SpaceBabes", this time in spandex with a modicum of body armor. (Love an alien woman in uniform! Once again, perhaps I've said too much).
~ I can't be for certain, but I believe the end segment was created for this 'encore' presentation. (It just had that 'feel' to it).
) "You know, Joel, you made us, and, its kind of hard to believe that you just brought us into the world to watch crummy turtle movies." (Crow
) "Yes. With all my parts I could have made an excellent vacuum cleaner. Instead, it's the movies that S***!"
~ (Dr. Erhardt
) "Ishtar?!" (Dr. Forrester
) "No. Ish! Tar on my shoes!"
~ "She's from the 'Miss Hathaway' School of Glamour."
~ "Nuclear weapons. Be the first on your block, to be the LAST on your block."
~ Funny pop culture reference to 'Beef-a-Roni' (sung to the Gamera theme). I think everyone is just happy that the whole Gamera thing is over. Whew!
1-1/2 "SpaceBabes with Alabama accents" out of 5.
