Intro: The Mads help Joel get back inside the ship. Joel is not very happy with the Bots.
Host Segments:
Host 1: Joel disciplines the Bots for locking him out of the ship. The Bots claim that they didn't know it was him they locked out. "We heard the pounding on the hull, but we thought it was Elvis! Or... Buddy Rich!..., or... Gene Krupa!..., or... Keith Moon!..., or... oh, who's that drummer for "The Stones...?" Gypsy is stuck in the "Spiral-on-Down."
Host 2: Servo informs Joel that he cannot stay for the rest of the movie. "I have to bake brownies for the 'Pinewood Derby'!" Joel and the Bots host a game show, which is a cross between "The Peoples Court" and a "Three Stooges" or "Abbott and Costello" routine. Bizarre and really 'off-the-wall'.
Host 3: Joel and the Bots perform an acoustic version of the "Mystery Science Theater 3000" theme song. MST3K "Unplugged"?!
End: Joel and the Bots sign off and say "See you next time. Back to Earth".
Items of Note:
~ Apparently Josh had a prior engagement, and could not be at the studio for the entire episode.
~ In the "End Segment", Joel announces that nearly 900 people have signed up for the "MST3K Fan Club"!
Personal Notes:
~ A really bad, washed-out print of the film that BBI had to work with on this one.
~ "OH, WOW!" appears to be Joel's 'riff' of choice at this point.
The 'Riffs':
~ (
Crow): "Where'd you get that voice, pal? On the teeter-totter?!"
~ (
Joel): "Thumbs up, from where I'm sittin'!" (
Servo): "Not just
thumbs!"
~ (
Joel): "Frankie grows up! And 'goes to Hollywood!"
~ Pop culture references spanning such topics as 'Jeannie C. Riley', 'Foster Grant', 'Canada Dry' as well as 'David McCallum', 'Bobbie Gentry', "The Graduate" and "Petticoat Junction". For once, the movie was actually more entertaining than the commentary, (which isn't saying much)! An uninspired effort.
